On the internet, a price comparison service (also known as shopping comparison or price engine) allows individuals to see lists of prices for specific products. Most price comparison services do not sell products themselves, but source prices from retailers from whom users can buy. In the UK, these services made between £120m and £140m in revenue in 2005 , and is growing at an annual rate of 30% to 50%.
History of price comparison services
The internet boom of the late 1990s made price comparison profitable.
In the United States, the first two internet comparison shopping services were Jango and RoboShopper. These services were initially implemented as client-side add-ins to the Netscape and Internet explorer browsers, and both required that additional software be downloaded and installed. After these initial efforts, comparison shopping migrated to the server so that the service would be accessible to anyone with a browser.
Currently some of the major U.S. Based comparison shopping services are Pricegrabber, Shopzilla, Dealtime, and NexTag. Major portals like Yahoo!, AOL and MSN also offer comparison shopping services. In the UK some of the major comparison shopping services are DealClick and CompareStorePrices as well as the aforementioned U.S. websites which also provide UK services. The financial comparison sector has seen significant growth in the Uk with a large number of new sites emerging over recent years.
The original Roboshopper.com site still exists and has been re-targeted as a "Meta" tool which gives results from the leading comparison shopping sites, as well as product review and rating sites.
Another form of comparison shopping is where deals, bargains and coupons are preselected and presented to the user. As demonstrated by Unodeals.com this type of comparison shopping lets the user time their purchases along with the deals to get the most bang for their buck.

After 30 years of faithful service,my old fridge-freezer will be in need of replacement soon.I've got arthritis in many parts of my body and bending down is proving more and more problematic. I am looking for a new upright fridge-freezer which must be frost-free. It is essential for me to have the freezer compartment on the top and the fridge at the bottom.The freezer part must have a minimum of three large compartments. I would also appreciate help with where the best deals are on such fridge-freezers. Q. Ok im currently on AOL Broadband Cable 256k. I havent had any problems and iv been with AOL for 7 years now. I've been looking at broadband comparison sites for the UK for a while now because I don't think AOL's prices are good for value. I pay something like 17.99 for 256k broadband. Im sure that is expensive. I want a high bandwidth broadband, something at least 512k, i prefer 2mb to be honest.
